14-year-old Mackenzie is sent by her mom from her home in Seattle to spend the summer with her uncle in Juneau, Alaska. His kindness is almost overwhelming as he welcomes her into his Juneau, Alaska home but still a foreboding hangs over the home and their relationship. Mackenzie longs for her struggling absent mother. As her mom's phone calls become less frequent and her Uncle's care becomes anything but caring, she must flee. With no one to turn to, Mackenzie runs away after a hike around a local Juneau glacier. On her own and haunted by desperate phone calls and text messages from her Uncle, Mackenzie escapes into the town of Juneau which she soon discovers is not an easy place to escape being cut off from everywhere by the sea and mountains.
The film follows Pras Michel, the founder of the hip-hop group The Fugees, as he returns to his homeland of Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and finds a corrupt government in paralysis. With no experience or money, Pras mobilizes a presidential campaign for the unlikeliest of candidates: Michel Martelly aka Sweet Micky, Haiti’s most popular and most controversial pop star. The politically inexperienced pair set out against a corrupted government, civil unrest, and a fixed election. When Pras’s former bandmate — superstar Wyclef Jean — also enters the presidential race, their chances seem further doomed. But despite the odds, they never give up on their honest dream of changing the course of Haiti’s future forever.
A casual science fiction thriller set in modern day Brooklyn. Kim Getty is an immigrant from 400 years in the future, sent back in time to live out an easier life. It’s a one-way trip of difficult isolation, but in the three years since she landed, Kim has built a life that feels almost satisfying. She has a full time job, shares an apartment with a roommate, and is falling in love. But when she stumbles on a teenage girl who is also from the future, Kim’s remade sense of self is tested. After the girl leads Kim to her long-lost husband, now 20 years older than her and maladjusted to this time, Kim’s carefully designed identity begins to unravel. Kim finds herself having to choose between two entirely different lives. But once her secrets are exposed, the real decision is what she’s willing to do to survive.
