The Atlanta Film Festival kicked off its 2015 season with the presentation of short film 'La Noche Buena' a film by Alex Mallis and Analect Films. ‘La Noche Buena’ was immediately followed by the feature presentation, "I Am Michael'.

'I Am Michael', a film starring James Franco, Zachary Quinto and Emma Roberts is based on the life of gay activist Michael Glatze (Franco). Glatze was the managing editor of XY Magazine, a popular gay life magazine based in San Francisco. Glatze was a proud gay man in a loving relationship with his partner Bennett (Zachary Quinto) who after facing a health scare brought on by severe heart palpitations, Glatze turns to Christianity, renounces his homosexuality and eventually became a married, Christian pastor.

James Franco was scheduled to appear at the opening but due to his filming schedule was unable to attend. Franco is currently working on another project filming in the Atlanta area and is scheduled to attend the world premiere of his film "The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards" on March 25th.
