John Stewart to Exit 'The Daily Show'

According to a Twitter post this evening, John Stewart will exit The Daily Show after 16 years at the helm. The post reads "John will remain at the helm of The Daily Show until later this year. He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and will always be a part of the Comedy Central family.

The Daily Show was launched in 1996 with host Craig Kilborn who remained with the show until 1998. Stewart took over in 1999.

On December 16, 1998, Craig Kilborn intruduced John Stewart as the New host of The Daily Show and thus began a new era for Comedy Central.
